For learners

The learner experience

Every other product doc in this set is admin- or instructor-facing. This one covers what a member actually does day to day.

Enrolling

From a course's landing page, a member enrolls in any published course in their own tenant. Enrolling twice is harmless - it just returns the existing enrollment rather than erroring or creating a duplicate.

Reading a course

Enrolled members get a course landing page and a sidebar covering every module, lesson, and attached exam, in order. Opening a lesson shows its content (whatever mix of blocks the instructor authored - see Course Builder Studio); vocabulary blocks always show the term's current definition (see Vocabulary). Lesson completion is tracked per member, shown in the sidebar - "Mark as complete" stays disabled until every practice block in the lesson (matching, ordering, MCQ, MAQ) has been answered correctly, graded server-side and saved so a returning member doesn't have to redo an already-correct answer (ADR-064).

If a workspace has "Learners read published versions" turned on, everything above (and lesson completion/progress/practice answers) reflects the course's last published snapshot, not whatever an instructor might be editing right now - an in-progress edit never reaches a member until it's published, and progress carries over across a republish because ids are preserved. If a lesson is updated while a member has it open, they keep seeing the version they loaded until their next fetch of it; if they leave the tab/app open and come back to it, a small "a new version of this lesson is available" prompt offers a refresh rather than swapping the content out from under them. With the flag off (most workspaces, for now), an edit reaches a member the moment it's saved, same as before this feature existed.

Taking an exam

Covered in detail in Exams - a timed, auto-graded attempt flow reachable from the same course sidebar as lessons, with resumable in-progress attempts and a pass/fail result against the exam's pass percentage, if one is set.

Asking a question

If a tenant has it turned on, a floating "Ask about this course" widget is available on the course page and every lesson - see Knowledge base & Ask about this course. It answers from the course's own material (lessons and any uploaded documents), with source citations, rather than a generic answer. The lesson material it draws on is always the last published version, regardless of the "Learners read published versions" flag above - an instructor's in-progress, unpublished edit can never change what this widget tells a learner; only uploaded documents (never versioned) and publishing reach it.

What's out of scope for a member

Members have no authoring access anywhere (Studio, Blog, Vocabulary, Exams editor) and no visibility into another tenant's content or into the admin console (Users, Branding, Audit log, Analytics, AI usage dashboard).
